Why different rates for Portal?
- Adventure Birding guide John Yerger now resides in Portal, only a few miles from all of the prime birding locations. As such, there is less overhead for scouting, etc. - Portal is about 2.5 hours drive from Tucson, and requires at least one overnight stay (preferably two or three!) Many folks are not willing to make the long trek out here. We hope these rates may encourage eco-tourism year-round in the area. - Owling rates: Density of owls is very high in the Chiricahua Mountains. However, it takes much more scouting and planning to avoid repeated visitation of the same territories night after night during the peak season, since most of our owling activity is based solely in Cave Creek Canyon. The owling rates for Portal reflect this extra effort to keep disturbance to an absolute minimum.
Otherwise, policies remain the same as listed on the previous page.
